No longer just a popular pastime, golf is a growing business. Whether your goal is to share your passion for golf with others or to steep yourself in the golf lifestyle, employment and advancement within the golf industry increasingly requires education and experience.
With more than 32,000 golf courses in 119 countries around the world, the golf industry is estimated to generate $76 billion annually. North America alone is home to more than 19,000 golf courses and 25 million golfers.
California has a particularly strong foothold in the golf industry with almost 80 percent of its golfers frequenting courses within 20 minutes of their homes. The PGA reports that “over 500,000 people call the golf course their office”. The types of positions in the industry range from jobs that support golf course operations and resort management, to opportunities in merchandising and the affiliated recreational golfing market. Job titles include director of golf, director of instruction, head golf professional, assistant golf professional, general manager, golf clinician, college golf coach, golf course superintendent, tournament director, and rules official.
Many say that working in the golf industry gives them the greatest “office space” in the world. Why not make the golf course your classroom too?
